Lake Norman Special Olympics Open Regatta, June 21-23

In collaboration with Special Olympics Lake Norman, the Lake Norman Yacht Club is hosting a Sailing Regatta from June 21 to 23 at their facility on the shores of Lake Norman.  Athletes from North Carolina, South Carolina and Alabama will participate in the inaugural event. Athletes competing will represent the following North Carolina local programs/agencies: Lake Norman and Wake.

This will be the first Special Olympics Regatta event to be held in North Carolina, as interest in sailing has increased over the last several years, making the event a milestone in Special Olympics competition. The races will take place on the waters of Lake Norman, as teams of two or three sailors will attempt to navigate the course in the fastest time. The growing interest level coupled with support and assistance provided by the Lake Norman Yacht Club will allow for expansion and development of the sport within the state.
